Denture Reline Services
For dentures to look, feel, and function optimally they need to fit well, but sometimes, changes in the mouth mean that dentures that used to be a great fit no longer are. When this happens, a denture reline can help solve the problem, by improving the fit.
Why Get a Denture Reline?
Certain body changes, such as tooth loss, weight loss, jawbone density loss, and illness, can lead to changes in the way your dentures fit.
Ill-fitting dentures can cause all sorts of problems. They're often uncomfortable, and can rub against the gums and soft tissues of the mouth, leading to the formation of mouth sores that risk becoming infected. If dentures don't fit properly, they're also more likely to slip in the mouth when talking, laughing, and coughing. As well as this, they're less stable when eating, which can force you to restrict your diet.
However, while ill-fitting dentures can cause all of these problems, a denture reline can potentially solve them.
What is a Denture Reline?
Denture relining is a procedure in which your dentures are modified to improve the way they fit in your mouth. To do this, an impression of your mouth is taken in your denture to provide a model to work with. This impression is then used as a template for modifying the base of your denture to make it a better fit.
Relining dentures doesn't change the way they look, but it can improve the way they function, and make them more comfortable to wear.
For a reline procedure to be successful, your dentures must be in good overall shape—no broken or worn teeth or missing parts of denture base. If this isn't the case, a different procedure called a rebase may be more appropriate.
